Trauma-informed care is central to how Dr. Aana Shaunak Shah practices psychiatry, alongside a strong interest in ADHD, autism, and neurodivergence.
Dr. Shah has been practicing psychiatry for over 5 years. She ranked first in her MBBS college for NEET PG and later won a Gold Medal in her MD (Psychiatry) university final exams, training and working across several major psychiatric centres along the way, where she managed both acute and chronic psychiatric illness.
A significant part of her work involves perinatal mental health — postpartum depression, postpartum psychosis, and postpartum OCD and anxiety, among others. She also sees children and adolescents, and works with trauma-related conditions such as complex PTSD and grief. Certifications in trauma-informed medication management, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and sexual medicine round out an integrative approach, aimed at giving patients practical, evidence-based support they can lean on between appointments, not just during them.
In 2021, she was named a West Zone Finalist for the Torrent Young Scholar Award for a thesis on the psychiatric side-effects of MDR-TB drugs, and in 2022 she published research on perinatal depression in the Journal of Psychiatry Spectrum. She is a Lifetime Member of the Indian Psychiatric Society and a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK.
