A woman's mental health is closely connected to her hormonal, reproductive, and physical health. At different stages of life, hormonal changes can influence mood, sleep, anxiety, energy, concentration, relationships, and overall quality of life.
At our Women's Mental Health Clinic, we bring together mental health expertise and gynecological care to provide a more complete understanding of your concerns. This integration allows your physical, hormonal, reproductive, and emotional health to be considered together, rather than separately.
Your existing gynecological care continues
We believe in continuity of care and collaboration. If you are already consulting a personal obstetrician and gynecologist, your existing doctor-patient relationship will be fully respected, and your ongoing gynecological care will continue with your chosen specialist.
Dr. Pragnia Poloju, our Consultant Gynaecologist, will work in a supportive and complementary role, whenever required, and coordinate with your treating obstetrician and gynecologist to ensure that your mental health care is integrated smoothly with your existing medical care. If you are not currently under the care of an obstetrician or gynecologist, Dr. Pragnia can provide the necessary gynecological assessment and support as part of our integrated care approach.
One team, working with your doctor
Our goal is not to replace the doctor who knows you and your medical history. We work alongside your existing healthcare team to provide comprehensive care for your mental, reproductive, and emotional wellbeing.
PMDD: when PMS starts affecting your life
Premenstrual symptoms are common, but for some women, the emotional and psychological symptoms can become severe enough to significantly affect their relationships, work, studies, and daily functioning.
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) can involve:
- Severe mood changes or irritability
- Anxiety or feeling overwhelmed
- Low mood or hopelessness
- Anger or emotional sensitivity
- Difficulty concentrating
- Sleep disturbances
- Changes in energy and motivation
- Feeling unlike yourself during the days before your period
You don't have to simply "put up with it." Our team can help distinguish PMDD from other mental health and gynecological conditions and develop an individualized treatment approach, considering both your menstrual and mental health needs.
Fertility, infertility, and mental health
Because the journey to parenthood can affect more than your body.
Trying to conceive can be an emotionally challenging experience. Fertility difficulties, repeated treatment cycles, pregnancy loss, uncertainty, and the pressures associated with assisted reproductive treatments can contribute to anxiety, depression, relationship stress, sleep difficulties, and emotional exhaustion.
At the same time, women who already have a mental health condition may have concerns about planning pregnancy, psychiatric medications, treatment decisions, and the possibility of relapse during pregnancy or after childbirth.
Our clinic offers support throughout the fertility journey, including:
- Emotional support during fertility and infertility treatment
- Assessment and treatment of anxiety and depression
- Psychological support during assisted reproductive treatments
- Support following pregnancy loss
- Preconception mental health planning
- Review and management of psychiatric medications when planning pregnancy
- Coordination between gynecological and mental health care
- Support for partners and families when appropriate
You deserve care for both your emotional health and your reproductive health. With a gynecologist and mental health professionals working together, we can provide coordinated care that recognizes the whole person, not just the fertility concern or the psychiatric diagnosis.
Perimenopause and menopause
A new phase of life. A different kind of support.
Perimenopause and menopause are natural transitions, but that does not mean every woman has to struggle through them without support.
Changing hormone levels during this phase can be accompanied by changes in mood, sleep, anxiety, concentration, energy, and emotional wellbeing. Women may also be navigating changes in relationships, work, family responsibilities, physical health, and identity at the same time.
You may notice:
- Increased irritability or emotional sensitivity
- Anxiety or persistent worrying
- Low mood or loss of interest
- Sleep problems
- Brain fog or difficulty concentrating
- Reduced energy and motivation
- Mood fluctuations
- Increased stress or feeling overwhelmed
- Changes in confidence or sense of wellbeing
Sometimes these symptoms are attributed simply to "menopause," while significant mental health concerns may go unrecognized. Our clinic provides an opportunity to look at the whole picture.
Dr. Pragnia Poloju can assess reproductive and menopausal concerns, while our mental health specialists evaluate psychological symptoms and provide appropriate treatment. This integrated approach helps ensure that important physical and psychological factors are considered together.
